While adding text to your AChurchNearYou.com pages, you can format it to make selected text Bold, Italic or underlined. You can also add headings, numbered or bulleted lists or a hyperlink. Simply highlight the text you want to format, and a pop-up menu will automatically appear, enabling you to click on the option required.
Bold, italic and underline
Use the text format menu to highlight text in bold, italics or underline.
- Highlight the text with your cursor to open the text format menu
- Select bold, italics or underline from the menu.
- When selected the format will only apply to the highlighted text.
How to add a hyperlink
The # option will allow you to add a link to the text (the link must start with the http:// or https:// prefix, not www.). If you would like to link an email address, you must begin the email address with mailto: (mailto:name@churchofengland.org).
First, copy the link of the web page you wish to link to:
- Go to the web page you wish to add as a hyperlink.
- In the browser search bar copy the web page address which starts with https://
Next, use the text format menu to add a hyperlink.
- In a text box on AChurchNearYou.com, highlight a section of text with your cursor to open the text format menu
- Select #
- Paste the web page address into the box.
- Click on the tick to confirm.
- The text with the hyperlink will now be underlined showing there is a link.
Headings
Headings serve as titles for sections or subsections in a text, indicating what the following content will be about and clarifying the structure of the document. They help readers quickly understand the organisation and main points of the text, making it easier to navigate and find information.
H2 represents a main heading, while H3 is usually used for subheadings within those main headings. H4 then further subdivide sections
Use the text format menu to create headings within your block of text.
- Highlight the text with your cursor to open the text format menu
- Select H2, H3 or H4 from the menu.
- When selected the heading will only apply to the highlighted text.
Lists
Lists within text are a way to organise information and make it easier to read.
- Numbered Lists: Use numbers (1, 2, 3...) before each item, suitable for steps or a sequence.
- Bulleted Lists: Use a bullet point (•) before each item, ideal for unordered lists of items.
Use the text format menu to create lists within your block of text.
- Highlight the text with your cursor to open the text format menu
- Select either the numbered list or bulleted list from the menu.
- When selected the list will only apply to the highlighted text.
Please note that text formatting is not available for service or event titles or descriptions. It is available for the main block of text on your homepage, and for custom pages.
