Editors can change the 'friendly' name of their Benefice displayed on the the Benefice Homepage, this article explains how: https://achurchnearyou.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026310834
However, church, parish and benefice legal names cannot be changed by editors.
If the name of a church/parish/benefice is incorrect or has changed, or a parish/benefice has merged or separated, or there has been any other form of legal pastoral reorganisation then, once the pastoral scheme has arrived with the Research and Statistics Team at the Church of England and date has past for the change to become legal, AChurchNearYou.com will be automatically updated, within one month, to reflect the new structure.
However, we know that sometimes, locally, you can start working in the new structure before the legal paperwork has gone through, and the legal date for enabling the new structure has past. We also know that sometimes locally you are working within a structure and which has never actually been formed/changed legally. If you're unsure, you can always check your parish scheme (which the incumbent or the diocese should have access to) to check.
If a change has been made legally and the change is not reflected on AChurchNearYou.com within two months after the legal date of the pastoral reorganisation, then we are very happy to investigate. In order to do so we will need the following information.
1) The AChurchNearYou ID of each church affected
You'll find this ID by going to the AChurchNearYou church page in question and looking in the browser address bar where you'll see: https://www.achurchnearyou.com/church/ followed some numbers, please could you provide us with those numbers.
For instance the URL for St Alkmund's in Duffield is: https://www.achurchnearyou.com/church/13370/ so their AChurchNearYou ID is 13370.
2) The pastoral scheme for the correct name/name change/merge/separation (please attach as a PDF). If you don't have a copy of this then your diocese might have it. Sometimes this documentation is still with your diocese, you may want to approach them first in order to ensure the paperwork has been filed with the Research and Statistics Team at the Church of England.
